Drawing & Designing Celtic Knotwork

Since ancient times, the beautiful, intricate art form of Celtic interlace design has adorned the buildings, stonework, monuments, jewelry, clothing and manuscripts of the Celtic nations.  In modern times, knotwork is used for designing jewelry, floorcloths, plaques, Irish dance costumes, web pages, greeting cards, quilts and as a stand-alone visual art form.  It can also be used as a tool for focusing, meditation and stress relief!

There are a number of methods of designing knots, but this courses will teach two of the simplest but most effective methods.

This program:

  • will enable you to draw stand-alone knots, like triskels, square and circle knots and ways of combining them into seemingly intricate full page artwork.
  • will then focus on designing larger spaces, borders, fills and asymmetrical knotwork.  We will also explore traditional decorative styles, combination knots, irregular knots, approaches to composition, and ways of using colour to make your knotwork come to life in many different mediums.

Participants will be taken in clear easy steps through these methods of designing & decorating knots.  By the end of the week you will be on your way to creating beautiful new designs.

Our classes are easy and fun for all ages and experience levels.
